Week 7 – 9 Project Life Share

Week 7 - 9 Project Life Share.jpg

Hello 🙂

Today I have a Project Life Share for you. I was off on a good start in March when I ‘officially’ started but during the month of April, I let myself fall behind. So I have changed my routine up a little bit and downsized the weekly spread from 2 pages to 1 page. 2 pages was just to much for every week. And to be honest, I always forget to take photos and every pocket, ends up multiple photos of the same…if you know what I mean.

I think next year, I will downsize again and only to project life monthly (and in a smaller album). This is not because I am not enjoying it, because I am…it is because not much really goes on in my life from week to week to document.

I knew when I started Project Life that it would be trail and error at first and I am still just finding my feet and working out what works into my life and what doesn’t. So my album is a bit all over the place…but this does not bother me to much as it is just my ‘first edition’.

OK, now that I have blabbered on a little bit, lets actually get into today post…

Recently I have been obsessed with all the Simple Stories Collections. So all the following layouts have been done using them collections.

Week 7

Week 7 Project Life 3.jpg

This weeks layout is the ‘So Fancy’ Collection. This has got to be my favourite collection so far. I just love all the papers and cut a parts.

Quick question for anyone that may know… Here in the UK it is really hard to get your hands on certain supplies that we want, having to make do with what we can get or pay for international shipping. Does anyone know of any UK based scrap-booking kits I could subscribe to? I really like the Hip-Kit Club releases but… I just would really rather save the money I would have to spend on the shipping for more craft supplies. If anyone knows of one…could you leave a comment down below or use my ‘Contact Me’ page to let me know. it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance 🙂

So here is a slide show of the rest of Week 7…

Meraki – the word I live my life by…

Meraki - the word i live by....png

Today I thought I would share with you a powerful word that I live my life by. This word has resonated with me on a deeper level and I have found that when I am feeling in a bad place, confused or sad… if I remember this word I can get past anything.

This word helps me remember who I am, what my values are and where I want my life to go. It helps me keep the ‘Big Picture’ in mind and helps me stay focused on my long-term goals.

I know some people choose a ‘word of the year’ in January’s to  keep in mind their goals for the upcoming year and this word for me is just like that…only, this word is not just for 1 year…I want to live my whole life by it. If I feel like in the future it doesn’t suit my life then I will change it, but for the foreseeable future I don’t see it changing any time soon.

So here goes;

Meraki (May-Rah-Kee)

This is a Greek word that cannot be translated into English with another one word. This article here explains it in more detail. If you do a quick Pinterest search…it will say the meaning of this word is;

To do something with soul, creativity or love; to put something of yourself into your work.

Pinterest is where I found this word and I instantly fell in love with it. So I popped over to Google to do a little bit more research.

Meraki means to do something with total love. To do something with Meraki, means you are putting your heart and soul into that ‘something’ you are doing or creating.

An example of how I would put it into a sentence;

I will create this mini album for you with meraki.

When I write I do so with meraki.

I love my life with meraki.

I do not say this word aloud and to others because they wouldn’t know what the hell I was talking about. But I silently say this word to myself before I do anything that has meaning in my life. This reminds me that if I have choose to do something, I will do that ‘something’ with all my heart and soul. I want whatever I create and do, to have a little piece of me in it and my love to shine though it for years to come.

It’s like that saying “if you are going to do something, you might as well do it properly” this word is like that for me “if I am going to do something, I am going to do it with love, with all my heart and soul” because if I don’t, what the point of doing it at all.

This word resonated with me because of my love of creating and writing. When I am doing either of these things, I am truly in a happy place. When I am in a happy place, all my love and attention goes into what I am doing.

Whatever I create, I will do so with meraki. Every word I type or write by hand I do so with meraki. I know the more I create and write, the more I will improve. The more I improve, I know in my heart I am growing as a person and as a spiritual being. The more I grow by doing everything I do with meraki, the more I know I am who I am because that’s who I want to be. (I hope that makes sense)

When I found this word, I was in the stage of my life when I was looking for meaning and purpose. I had been in a state of depression for over 3 years and when I finally hit rock bottom when my friend died, (To read about my friend, click here) I needed change in my life.

Before this I had lived my life to please others, I was always worried in case I said the wrong thing, if I acted in the wrong way. I was always worried if I had upset someone, even when I knew I didn’t do anything. I felt guilty for no reason at all, all the time. I just wanted to be liked by everyone. Being liked by everyone is not possible, I know this now. And to be truly honest, I don’t want to be liked by everyone. I do not like everyone, so why should everyone like me. And to be liked by everyone means you are not standing up for something. Something you believe in!

Tangent…

Without anything to believe in you just become another sheep in the field…looking the same, acting the same and doing all the same things. To do everything you do with meraki…. You are no longer just a boring black or white sheep. You can be any colour sheep you what to be. Pink, blue or even rainbow coloured. In fact let your uniqueness and authenticity stand out even further and be a bloody unicorn or a neon coloured dragon! Be whoever, you want to be! I want to be a forever colour changing butterfly, with eternal life. Flapping my wings freely while I travel the world and leaving sparkle and glitter where ever I go!

Back on track…

Because of the sadness I was always feeling, I knew I needed to make changes for me and only me! I needed to live my life to make me happy…not everyone else. I needed to do things that made me happy and do things that brought my life meaning.

So, now before I do anything, agree with anything, say anything or make any kind of decision at all. I repeat the word ‘meraki’ to myself. To me this is like a metal check in with my values, passions and dreams.

Is this decision I am making contradicting my values?

Is this decision I make in alignment with my passions?

Is this decision I make going to bring me further towards my dreams?

Then I ask myself…if I do decide to do this ‘something’;

Can I do this ‘something’ with all my heart and soul?

Will this ‘something’ make me happy?

Will this ‘something’ make someone I love happy?

If my answer is yes, to all or most of these questions…I can make any decision with full confidence and at ease.  Just this one word has changed the way I look at life, it has changed the way I make decisions and it has changed the way I live.

So, I thought I would make a whole new Pinterest pin for what the word means to me…

Meraki

80% Recycled Creative Journal

For the challenge I have created my own A4 sized journal made from bits and pieces I had in my stash that…I properly would have thrown away eventually. But I had been saving them, waiting for an idea to come to me for what I should use them for! Then when I created this challenge it just came to me…

80% recycled journal 2.jpg

The journal is made from scrap paper I had piled up from printing errors or perfectly good paper that somehow got crumbled up! My son likes to make paper air planes and I just don’t like throwing paper away, so I flattened it out and kept it.

You can see where the folds were made for the paper air plane 🙂

I also added patterned scrap paper that I had left over from packs that had finished and didn’t really have anything matching to add them to…for this project I am not going to worry about things matching!

For the front and back cover I ModPodged a few thin cardboard pieces together (the cardboard you get from packaging), until I felt it was sturdy enough then cut it to size. I then wrapped it in some pattered tissue paper then I got from packaging as well. The front cover is made from the tissue paper I got in my Kikki K packaging. I coloured in the little envelope icons with my Copic pens.

Now, I say it is only 80% recycled because…I was lazy with the binding and used a cinch and the embellishments I have used to decorate are new and not recycled….but I still think 80% recycled is better than 0% recycled. I also added sheets of velum and selected coloured paper, just to add interest. I do plan on using DIY embellishment etc. inside the book as I work through the challenge.

100 Creative Journal Prompt Challenge

So, inside the book I have managed to complete and introduction page (which is optional by the way and not part of the challenge) and my first entry.

I also printed off the challenge prompts and added them into the book when I ‘cinched’ it together, so I can tick off all the entries when I complete them.

So here is my introduction page;

80% recycled journal introduction page

My introduction page was completed on a sheet of velum, I just stuck my name on with stickers and added some cut apart’s from the ‘Simple Stories – So Fancy’ pack (I LOVE that collection) for decoration. I then flicked some Heidi Swapp ‘Colour Shine’ on it, stuck a paper clip at the top and called that finished!

Here is some close ups;

The back of it isn’t to pretty but that doesn’t bother me…(now) I am doing this project to help me push through perfectionism…I wouldn’t of dreamed leaving a page a mess like that about a year ago, so I am defiantly moving past this issue.

My First Entry Q1 #1

I choose Question 1 ‘Who Am I?’ as my first entry, I just thought that was fitting for the first page.

first entry

First I just used my water colours and wrote in different colours and sizes all of the page with my water brush. Then I made an embellishment cluster around some selfie’s I took…I was originally going to just stick it on that page but then I wondered where I would do my writing.

20160428_161044

There was another piece of velum paper on the opposite side of the page I was working on, so I wrote my journalling in white pen…. Then when the velum piece was over the previous page…the writing was backwards. (I hope I am making sense here).

20160428_161018

I used a little bit of washi tape to stick the pages together then I started decorating the other side of the velum. You can see the white writing and the next page through the velum and I think it makes a brilliant background.

Plus if someone just happened to pick the book up they wouldn’t be able to see what I had wrote…unless they knew to take the washi off…Which everyone I know, will know this secret now, but if you are better at keeping secrets you could use this trick in your journal, if you don’t want prying eyes to see what you have wrote.

Overall, I quite like what I have done so far and I really enjoyed the process. And that’s what this is all about – having fun while creatively expressing yourself in a healthy way. You get to learn more about yourself, grow your personal-development and your creative skills at the same time!!

What can be better than that.

I cant wait to see everyone else creations…if you decide to join in of course 🙂 I really hope you do!
