Creative Journaling ‘100 Creative Journal Prompt Challenge’ Q18 #2

Creative Journaling 100 creative journal prompt challenge Q18 #2.jpg

Hello 🙂

Today I have a Creative Journal prompt entry for you. I thought I would go into more detail with this and let you know what I have wrote. I think this is a good way for you to get to know me, so you can get to know the person behind the ‘blog’.

Before I get into this, if you are new here, the ‘100 Creative Journal Prompt Challenge’ is a competition I am hosting. I created this challenge after I finished my ‘A Beginner’s Crash Course to Journalling’ series, to encourage and inspire people to journal. I love to journal, in all kinds of ways…e.g. Journal writing, Creative journalling, art journalling. When I first began journalling I was in a bad place (so to say) and I will go as far as saying, that journalling saved me…from myself. I won’t get into ‘how’ it saved me here…because I have already wrote about it in the journalling series.

If you would like to read it…click here. And if you would also like to learn how to join in with the challenge…click here. If you do join in, you could be in with a chance of winning a Personalized Handmade Journal, made by me.

As you can tell, I am a big advocate to journalling and I do believe that whoever you are and no matter what you have been through, journalling can help to heal your heart, body and soul. Obviously, for those who suffer from mental health problems and have deep rooted issues they need to work through, I do recommend that you seek professional help, alongside using journalling as a healing tool and I wish you all the very best on your very own journalling journey.

So now back to today’s entry… I choose question 18 for my second entry, which is;

18. List 10 things that you absolutely LOVE & why?

I actually found this quite hard because I LOVE lots of things…but I managed to narrow it down to 10. I had an urge to do some art journalling when I started this page…but changed my mind half way through. So this page is like a mixed media page with a bit of everything included. I made a YouTube video of the process if you would like to check it out (video at the bottom of this post).

For each of the 10 things that I absolutely LOVE I wrote in a 4 by 4 piece of coloured card stock and folded them into origami hearts. I then stuck them to the page with double sided sticky tape. If I want to read them, I will have to tear them off…but I don’t see me wanting to in the near future. I might leave a little note…to open them in maybe 10 to 20 years, to see how much I have changed or if I still LOVE the same things. However, I am also writing here with a bit more expansion to them…so for as long as I have this blog…I will be able to read what I wrote and why…

Here is a peak at the final page…

So, here they are…in no particular order.

I absolutely LOVE my Family!

Q18 Family.jpg

Although if it was in order this would be my number one!

All my family mean the world to me. I have a big bunch of them that care for me and love me dearly. I could not imagine my life without each and every one. I am the youngest girl (of my generation) out of my family, so I have had them all to watch over me during my life, to encourage me to succeed and sway me to a different path when I get ‘a bit’ lost. I can honestly say, I would not be the person I am today if it weren’t for them (you’s know who you are). And for that… I will be forever grateful.

But of course, I am an adult now (and have to do adult stuff) I am no longer the youngest girl. Boo! I now have the best nieces and nephews in the world that I get to watch out for. It has been amazing to watch them grow from little chubby babies into young little adults themselves. They all make me so very proud, every single day 🙂

And, obviously… I have my very own family now. Two beautiful (crazy) children and a loving partner. They make my life so full with love every single second…. of every single day. They truly make my life complete. And although being a parent can be sometimes hard, it is truly the most rewarding experience to watch them grow. To watch them develop their own very unique personalities. To laugh with them when they are happy, to comfort them when they are sad and learn them about the world. A child’s innocent curiosity for the world…fascinates me. I aspire to see the world, the way a child sees it. The little moments…when they think the moon is following them and the way they slowly shut the fridge door, to see when the light turns off…almost trapping their heads in it. Can anyone remember doing that? And watching the rain drops on the car window…having a race!! HEHE!

I absolutely LOVE Crafting!

Q18 Crafting.jpg

Oh, for the love of crafting. I really do absolutely love crafting. I love to make things and fix things. I love to make pointless pretty things. It makes me so happy. When I craft I go into my own little world of wonders, where I have no worries and everything is colourful and bright and happy. I lose track of time and forget about yesterday and tomorrow never comes. When I craft I am truly present in what I am doing…and both mindful and lost in mindlessness. If that is even possible. Yes, it is possible because that is where I am when I craft. It is a magical place…let’s call it ‘Cloud 101’.

But on a more serious note: crafting does bring me happiness, it helps me heal my heart when I feel sad and it helps me focus when I am confused. It pushes me out my comfort zone when I try something new but also wraps me in a blanket of comfort when I do something I am already good at.

I only ‘officially’ started crafting about 2 years ago, although I had dabbled in the crafting world previously…I had only just recognised it as one of my passions recently. During these past 2 years my skills have grown and it is so good to look back on how far I have come (from that first day, where I had to Google what the hell ‘washi tape’ was). I know my skills will continue to grow, as will I. My crafting journey has just begun!

I absolutely LOVE Writing!

Q18 Writing.jpg

I have not always loved writing, in fact I hated writing at school. I had always struggled organising my thoughts in my head, well enough to get them out in spoken word…never mind written word. I suppose my love for writing started when I was at college doing my degree, although I did find writing assignments very difficult. It really did stress me out…not knowing where to start and not knowing where the end. Once I did get started, I have a tendency to blabber on… (Poor tutors that had to mark my work). I thought I had nothing to say when I started an assignment but once I got going I had too much to say. Word counts are a killer! But that did help me grow my skills for editing.

When I left college and no longer needed to write, but always just got the urge to write. But with no questions to answer I never bothered and pushed the urge away. It wasn’t till I started journalling that my love for writing ‘really’ started to grow. Which obviously lead me on to creating this blog…!

Now, I don’t think I could go a day without writing something. Even if what I am writing doesn’t make sense, I still write. I love to read quotes and learn new words. I love how every word on its own is meaningless but once I put a few select together, in the right order…they tell stories and pass on wisdom.

I absolutely LOVE Singing & Dancing!

Q18 Singing and dancing.jpg

I have always loved singing and dancing for as long as can remember. I am one of those annoying people that sing the wrong words louder than the music is playing and breaks out into a mini ‘foot tapping’ dance at the shops (to my daughters horror). I love music, although I don’t listen to it much these days. (NOTE TO SELF: Listen to music more!)

I am also one of those people that loves songs, singing and dancing to them…but if you ask me who sings it and what the song is called, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. Unless I really like it. I am lucky to have a partner that knows his music…because when I decide I like a song, I just have to sing it to him and he will give me all the information I need to download it or buy it. Sometimes, I don’t even know the words, I will just hum it or start explaining what the video of it looks like… I don’t give him much to go on sometimes, but he always knows exactly what I am talking about.

Thank you for being patient with me Lee 😉

I absolutely LOVE Bailey!

Q18 Bailey.jpg

And by Bailey, I don’t mean Baileys the drink…I mean Bailey the dog…my dog. My little Miniature Jack Russell (a grass muscle, as my son calls him). I had pets when I was growing up, like rabbits and hamsters but I always wanted a dog. My Mam never let me get one though, probably because she would end up looking after it…as a parent myself now, I finally understand what she means. I got Bailey when he was one and he is now about 4 and a half. He is my little baby but as a little dog, he can bark…a lot. My neighbours will vouch for that. But I wouldn’t change him for the world, he brightens up my day. He is just a happy little bundle of bark!

I absolutely LOVE Crystals!

Q18 Crystals.jpg

I don’t mean the expensive type in jewellery form, I mean healing crystals and stones. I started liking them about a year ago and started reading up on their meanings and healing properties. I became fascinated with them, all the different types, colours and shapes. Where each one comes from and their histories. I bought my first ones from a market stall, they are still my favourite…but I now have quite a little collection. I like to browse Etsy shops for ones that stand out, then when I purchase them, I will read all about that certain crystal/stone until I feel I have learnt everything about it. I suppose you can call my love for crystals a collection! I always wanted to collect something, and I have only just realised as am writing this, that…I now have a collection, I have had one for the past year, without even realising it.  OMG… I am a crystal collector! Haha!

I absolutely LOVE the beach!

Q18 Beach.jpg

I don’t know why I love the beach so much, maybe it’s because it brings back loads of good childhood memories? I just know when I am there I feel at peace. When I was little I was convinced that I was actually a mermaid, partly because ‘The Little Mermaid’ was my favourite Disney movie and Ariel has red hair like me and partly because I love swimming. I used to think that I was Ariel and the film was based on me (hand over face).

But anyway, I went on a tangent there. I just love everything about the beach…the sand, the sea, the shells. It doesn’t have to be sunny either for me to enjoy it there, I will take off my shoes and walk along the shore on any day. I love the feel of the sand on my feet, also it is a cheap and easy way to ex-foliate your feet. I love to chase the waves and try and swim as far as I can out into the ocean….until I realise how far I have gone, then get scared and swim back as fast as I can. My Nana used to live on a boat in Spain and when I visited her, I used to jump straight off the boat in the morning…there’s nothing like a swim in the sea to wake you up in the morning.

I absolutely LOVE reading!

Q18 Reading.jpg

The first book that I read from cover to cover (which I wasn’t made to read) was a Goosebumps book. I can’t remember which one or what it was about but I remember liking it. I can’t remember how old I was when I read this, but I never read another book after that for a long time. So I will say I officially became a ‘reader’ at age 16 when I was pregnant with my daughter.

I now, couldn’t imagine my life without reading. I read every night before I go to sleep, unless it is a really good book and I can’t wait till night time. I feel I need a book now to be able to get to sleep. I can’t remember the last time I went to bed without reading. I read non-fiction books and fiction books. I love to get lost in the made up world of the authors and I also love reading to learn new things.

I absolutely LOVE camping!

Q18 Camping.jpg

I am a home bird, I love the comfort of my own home and being in doors. So for this reason, I don’t get out much. I think this is why I like camping so much, because I get to spend a few days reconnecting with Mother Nature. Exploring the outdoors. Sitting by the fire at night, with only the orange glow of the fire for light, melting yummy marshmallows. Living on either cold food or BBQ food for a few days. When I get home, I don’t want to look at another ‘sausage’ for at least a month.

I also love camping because I can let the children run around like wild animals, without the fear that they might break something. They have so much energy to burn, I really wish they would share it with me sometimes.

Camping is also an opportunity to break free from the internet for a few days, I love all technology gadgets (that’s my next LOVE) but it is good for your soul to disconnect from modern day life now and then. Away from the TV, your phone and laptop. Without the ability to check Facebook every 5 minutes, it takes away the urge. Camping makes it possible for you to be mindful of the world around you…if only for a few days out of a year.

I absolutely LOVE technology!

Q18 Technology.jpg

Who doesn’t like technology? If you are reading this, then you will be on some kind of technology device. Whether it be your phone, tablet, laptop etc. Technology is part of our everyday lives. They are all brilliant inventions…if used properly, of course. I do not encourage people to let technology to take over their lives. I am so glad that I am old enough to remember the days without to many technology devices.

Recording the top ten on an old tape with ‘cello taped’ ends and the horror you feel when the video player started eating your favourite movie! Fellow ‘oldies’ will know what I mean.

But seriously, I LOVE all my devices…my phone, my kindle, my laptop, my camera, my TV….I could go on but you get my point. I just LOVE them all…and want them all! My wish list gets longer every day, with my love for craft supplies and technology. Hey, I girl can dream!
